INTERCLASS ADR COMPETITION ORGANISED BY THE ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION COMMITTEE

The Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the St. Joseph’s College of Law organised a comprehensive ADR competition, showcasing the talents and skills of students across different years of the LLB programs. The event was divided into two distinct competitions to cater both juniors and senior students from 20th June to 22nd June, 2024.

The first competition was the Negotiation Competition, specifically designed for the junior students. This included participants from the first and second years of 5-year LLB program, as well as the first and second year of 3-year LLB program. This competition was intended for promoting the art of negotiation for the junior students.

The second competition was the Med-Arb (Mediation and Arbitration) Competition, specifically conducted for the seniors. This segment included participants from the third, fourth, and fifth years of 5-year LLB program and third year of the 3-year LLB program. The focus of this competition was to enhance the student’s proficiency in mediation and arbitration, key components of ADR.

The ADR committee of St. Joseph’s College of law organised the 1st Negotiation Competition Junior league from 21st to 22nd June 2024. The competition was intended for promoting the art of negotiation for the first and second year of the 5-year LLB and 3-year LLB batch. 1ST INTRA COLLEGE MED-ARB COMPETITION – 2024 (SENIOR LEAGUE)

DAY 1- PRELIMINARY ROUNDS
On 20th June, the first round of Med-Arb competition was conducted for all the seniors. A total number of twelve teams took part in this competition. The proposition involved an Intellectual property dispute. This round was judged by a distinguished panel of six judges: Mr. Gagan, Ms. Carol James, Ms. Blessy, Ms. Aprichida, Mrs. Swati and Mr. Thomas Chakramakal. These judges brought their extensive experience and expertise in ADR to the competition, providing critical assessments and valuable feedback to the participants. The respective judges also marked the memorial scores of the respective teams, based on which the Best Memorial Award was announced. Since this round was the knock out, the six qualifying teams were advanced to the next round.













DAY 2- SEMI FINALS On 21st June, the second round of the Med-Arb competition was held. This round had the same structure same as in the preliminary round. This round was judged by three esteemed judges namely Ms. Carol James, Ms. Blessy and Mrs. Swati. After the arbitration round, the six mediators were asked to draft the Arbitral Awards based on the arbitration proceedings observed by them. The Organizing committee had given total of one hour thirty minutes to draft the award. The top two mediators and mediating pairs were advanced to the finals based on their scores.











DAY 3- FINALS
On 22nd June, the final round of the Med-Arb competition was held. This round was judged by Advocate Omran Khan, partner and founder of legal cook Associates and Solicitors. The top two teams were TC- 7 and TC- 5. The qualified mediators were M-5 and M -3. The structure for final round was mediation of 50 minutes and followed by arbitration of 60
minutes. After the competition, the judge gave his feedback to the finalists which helped them to know their flaws.
After the competition of the round, the awards were announced.
BEST MEDIATOR- Mohammad Yasir from 4th BA ‘B’.
BEST ARBITRAL AWARD- Jayant peters from 5th BA ‘A’
BEST MEMORIAL AWARD- Vishnu and team from 5th B.com LLB
BEST MEDIATING TEAM- Nikitha from 5th BA ‘A’ and Ramasheshan from 4th BA ‘A’
RUNNER UP- Varun and Feriyal from 4th BA ‘B’











1ST INTRA JUNIOR LEAGUE NEGOTIATION COMPETITION- 2024 A total of 12 teams were allowed to participate over three rounds that is preliminary round, Semi-final round and final round. The proposition involved a corporate dispute, a matrimonial dispute and sports law dispute. A total of 6 teams qualified for the semi-final round based on highest marks scored. Two teams qualified for the final round based on the Highest marks score.

The final round of the Negotiation Competition took place on 22nd June 2024. The competition was Judged by Advocate Anusha Chatra, principal association Indus law. She presided over the Negotiation process, questioned the parties based on the proposition and provided as valuable feedback.
